The Unknown: a place where faith grows.

For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.

Romans 8:24-25

There's something about not knowing that keeps us filled with a sort of wonder. An expectation. A hope.

Some of us live our lives each day with hopes. We're hoping for a better job, a brighter tomorrow, some sort of breakthrough. And that hope is anchored by faith. We may not realize it but when we're hoping for something, we're having faith that it's going to happen. And these qualities, faith and hope, they come from God. They're good things to have.

If you're a believer, you took a step of faith by believing that Jesus Christ was real, and that God really did send his Son to save us. This belief that we hold onto is all held in faith, anchored in the hope that this is the truth.

But what about after we accepted Christ as Lord and Savior? We're still going to have troubles; we're still going to deal with problems. We're still going to need help living our day-to-day lives, especially when we don't know what's next for us.

God wants to grow us. He wants to grow our faith and bring us to maturity and it's a process that's lifelong. So, what helps our faith grow? Endurance. Patience.

Endure: to suffer (something painful or difficult) patiently.

Patience: the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.

Consider it nothing but joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials. Be assured that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result and do a thorough work, so that you may be perfect and completely developed, lacking in nothing.

James 1:2-4

Our lives are made up of different seasons, and in these seasons, we experience different things. These things we experience are meant to teach us, grow us, and show us that God is who he says he is. As followers of Jesus Christ, we can all expect to go through seasons of not knowing, and it's because God wants us to trust Him. He wants us to learn more about him. He essentially wants to grow our relationship with him. So, he tries us, tests us, to see if we really do trust him as Lord. To see if we trust him to be our Comforter, Healer, Teacher, Provider, Friend, Father.

Imagine if you owned a book with every day of your life mapped out. Every detail, every word you would speak, every event that would happen. Now, you'd wake up each day, look at that book, and know what your day would look like. You would know what your entire life would look life. You wouldn't walk by faith; you'd be walking by sight.

Now imagine that book in God's hands. Every detail, every word, every time we fall, every time we succeed, everything we do is in God's knowledge. Imagine if every day of our lives were mapped out, and only God knew what was going to happen next. Here, we wouldn't walk by sight, we'd have to trust God to guide us. We'd have to rely on his power and be okay with not knowing. We would then be walking by faith. As God's word says, walk by faith not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7)

Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Psalm 139:16

Those seasons of not knowing - that's God's way of telling you to trust him. These seasons aren't just "coincidence". God planned them long before we were born. Every day of our lives were already mapped out. These seasons are times to get to know who your Heavenly Father really is. These are the times to get to trust Jesus Christ as Lord. Because it's one thing to say He is, and it's another thing to actually believe.

As days go by I encourage everyone to start trusting and having absolute faith in God for the better, this is something I'm still working on till this day. Sometimes trying to lean on our own understanding just doesn't work! Nobody's perfect.. but life happens and we have to push through with perseverance.
